77 Competitors to race Roadsport in 2007

The Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge is set for another season of superb success, with 77 drivers announcing an intention to take part in the 14-round championship.

Many frontrunners from previous seasons are planning to return to the series, joined by graduates of the 2006 Caterham Academy.

The newly announced calendar is a major draw - seven double-header meetings at England's top circuits, and no track visited more than once. Highlights of the schedule include June's Donington Park celebration of the 7's golden jubilee and a Brands Hatch finale alongside the Formula Ford Festival.

Provisional dates 2007
1 Apr Snetterton
14/15 Apr Silverstone
2/3 Jun Donington Park Jubilee
24 Jun Castle Combe
21/22 Jul  Rockingham
22 Sep Oulton Park
19-21 Oct Brands Hatch FF Festival

As ever the championship will be split into two separate grids, a 'junior' Roadsport B division who will tackle 20-minute races and the premier Roadsport class for more experienced drivers and slightly faster cars, who will enjoy two 30-minute outings at each meeting.

Last year's Academy champions, James Sharrock and 17-year-old Lewis Hopkins, are planning to move straight into the upper Roadsport class, where they are likely to face stiff opposition from such as Gary Brown and David Pearce, respectively second and third overall in Roadsport last year, as well as '06 podium visitors Hugo Jones, Toby Dicker, Peter Earnshaw, Kevin Dodd and Simon Young, the latter being joined by his younger brother and Academy podium finisher Peter.

Last year's Academicians moving into Roadsport B for 2007 include top-four finishers Andrew Thomas, Stuart Patterson and Richard Edwards
