CATERHAM CHAMP FENNYMORE RETURNS TO UK SERIES
Reigning Caterham Superlight Challenge Champion Graham Fennymore is to return to the Avon Tyres-backed championship at Donington Park next month.
It's part of an ambitious five-race programme for Fennymore at the Seven Golden Jubilee meeting over the weekend of 2/3 June. In addition to the two Superlight Challenge races, Graham will also defend his evo Caterham Eurocup Superlight series lead. In all he will contest four 30-minute sprints and a one-hour endurance race.
"It's going to be a busy weekend," said Graham, "but one I am looking forward to. It will be great to be a part of the 50th birthday celebrations.
"My plan at the moment is to concentrate on my commitment to the Eurocup but if things go well in the UK championship it's possible that we may be able to find the budget to complete the season in that also and try to defend my title."
Fennymore, who is backed by Taylor Made Joinery and Sherlock Interiors, missed the start of the UK season, at Oulton Park at Easter, clearing the way for 2005 Champion Will Mitcham to take twin wins. Mitcham will be defending his championship lead at Donington not only from Fennymore but also from Peter Ratcliff and Rachel Green, both of whom pushed him hard at Oulton. A 25-car field is expected.
A record 320 racing Caterhams are expected at the Leicestershire circuit, with hundreds more road-going cars due to attend to make the Seven's 50th birthday bash the largest-ever gathering of the machine which Lotus founder and automotive design genius Colin Chapman unveiled in 1957.
In addition to the two days of thrilling race action visitors will be able to see a multitude of static displays, including a collection of historic Lotus and Caterham Sevens owned by Caterham founder Graham Nearn, plus historic Lotus Formula 1 cars owned by Clive Chapman's Classic Team Lotus and cars from the Historic Lotus Register.
On the track there will be races for the novices of the Circuit Driver Caterham Academy, the intermediate-level racers of the Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge, as well as the stars of the Avon Tyres Caterham Superlight Challenge and the evo Caterham Eurocup. There will also be races for historic Sevens, the French national Caterham championship and the Caterham Graduates Club.
Backers for Caterham Motorsport's UK and European race series include Bilstein, Brian James Trailers, Cheesman Products, Circuit Driver, Cooper-Avon Tyres, Demon Tweeks, evo, HSBC Insurance Brokers, Mitchell Cotts, Motorsport News, Stack and Steel Fabrication
