The 'Caterham Carnival' rolls into Castle Combe circuit for one frantic day of fantastic racing on bank holiday Monday, 26th May. No fewer than six Caterham races will entertain the crowds throughout the day, from the capacity Roadsport grids through to the opening rounds of the Superlight season.
FULLALOVE JOINS SUPERLIGHT GRID FOR SEASON'S START
Former BTCC and Formula Ford racer Mark Fullalove is to join the Avon Tyres Caterham Superlight Challenge, Caterham's premier UK track series, and will make his debut at the championship's opening rounds at Castle Combe on Bank Holiday Monday (26 May).
Fullalove has bought the Superlight campaigned last season by Sean Nash, attracted to the championship by, he says, its "affordability and close, exciting racing. I am really looking forward to it and, although I have not had much opportunity to test, I hope to be near the front during the season."
Lotus Cars sales executive Mark, 32, started his track career in karts. After winning races in British Formula Ford in the late '90s he switched to racing a Lotus Elise, winning the Autobytel Lotus Championship in 2001, and then spent two seasons in the British Touring Car Championship.
Fullalove is one of a number of newcomers to the Superlight Challenge for 2008. Others include Ollie Jackson, 24, who moves up to the top rank with the Piranha Racing team after race-winning success in the Caterham Mega-Graduate club series, and 19-year-old Kent driver David Mayes, who was a champion in karts and a successful Formula Ford exponent.
Leading the 'old hands' into battle is Rachel Green, last year's championship runner-up and the only female race winner at this level of Caterham motorsport. Rachel is reunited with the Fauldsport team for her bid to take championship honours.
The 2005 Champion, Will Mitcham, returns for his sixth straight season in Superlights, at the wheel of the Taylor's Foundry Motor Sport machine with which he won two races in 2007. Another Caterham title-holder, Pat Gormley, will be on the grid also; Pat was the 2006 R400 class champion and was a multiple race victor in Roadsports.
Triple 750 Motor Club Caterham Champion Peter Ratcliff returns to the fray also and former Eurocup frontrunner David Knox will be on the grid also.
Lap records are expected to tumble at each of the six circuit configurations being visited by the championship thanks to the adoption of a new Quaife sequential gearbox as part of a package of performance-enhancing modifications to the 2-litre Ford-powered Superlight. Highlights of the 12-round series include British F3/GT-supporting dates at Snetterton, Brands Hatch and Silverstone.
ROADSPORTS BATTLE REJOINED AT COMBE
Castle Combe plays host also to rounds three and four of the Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge, and full, separate grids are expected for both the Roadsport A and Roadsport B divisions.
In Roadsport A reigning Caterham Academy Champions Jon Walker and Philip Broad lead the standings, Walker two points ahead of Broad thanks to his twin wins at Croft last month, while in Roadsport B track newcomer Raphael Fiorentino and Magd Mohaffel - who has a year's Academy experience under his belt - head the standings. Fiorentino and Mohaffel each came away from Croft with a win and a second.
